A few days ago I found an old script I had in my archives for customising the text shown on the Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ LCD screen. It’s quite an old piece of hardware now, but should there be people out there still using it, this could be of interest.
readynas-lcd.sh is a simple customisable shell script for the Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ NAS, which cycles a selection of system information over the LCD, such as CPU usage etc. The standard information displayed on the LCD is very basic – this script gives a better overview of the system health ‘at a glance’.
I originally developed this script with a Netgear
RND4000-100EUS model but it should work with similar models with the 16x2 LCD display panel and the ARM Linux environment. This script uses undocumented functionality of the ReadyNAS, so YMMV!
Installation of this script is left as an exercise to the reader, but you should look at creating a cronjob, or modifying the script to loop/start with initd. You will need to configure your ReadyNAS to allow SSH access in order to deploy and run this script, as described in these instructions.
Unfortunately as with my old PIC18F4680 PCB project, this was created some years ago so I do not have any photographs showing the script in action.
The script can be found on the phraxoid/ReadyNAS-NV-LCD-Customiser GitHub repository. Let me know if you use it!
